A Superb Thanksgiving Day Dinner With All The Trimmings

Duffy watching the final prep.

Getting ready to close the cover and get'er done.

Here's a pic of the 11#er ready to come out of the Davy Crockett smoker/grill after a 3 hour cook....about an hour at 200 degrees for a little smoke and then cranked up to 325 then 360 to finish the process.

The 'setup' between our neighbors and our sites.

Thanks to Tom for saying Thanksgiving Day prayers before the meal.

Good to see 'old' friends (no pun) again.

Temps around 100 during the day cooling to the 60's at night.

Duffy gets a groom this morning.

Got our Blackstone out and will be using VERY soon.

Will have more once totally settled on.

Trip planning for S. AZ. underway...

The summer has flown by as we are going into the 2nd week of September.

That means it’s trip planning time, like we’ve never done that before,
to head to our winter home in S. Arizona.

Most things at home here in Reno are done and we did quite a lot this summer.
House painted, new flooring throughout the house, most health concerns addressed
(couple more to go actually), and most important seeing friends again and
some we should see yet (Penney and George, aka The Choctaw Kid) .

We will take the same route back to the Silverado RV Resort
that we used to get home in Reno back in May;

Leave Reno on I-580 South merging with US 395, to I-40 to Barstow and
our first and only overnight.
Should be close to a 7 hour drive covering about 410 miles.

Next day I-40E to Needles,Ca then US-95 to Quartzite, I-10E to 85-S to I-8E
at Gila Bend to the Silverado RV Resort. Another 7 hour run covering about 440 miles.

We are able to cover this time and distance now since we are not pulling our rig
(on an annual site waiting for us) and traveling now in Betty’s Jeep where she
can share some of the miles.

Exact dates of the trip will be updated as we get closer to leaving…
thinking mid October.

More soon....

Back home in Reno!

Just a short update as we settle back in. Departed our winter home in Betty's new Jeep at the Silverado Thursday April 30th about 10am but had a change in route just before we got to Phoenix. Betty really did not to take our 'usual' way back and forth from Eloy to Reno and then back the same way in October which is being on US 95....and I agreed....boring drive on 95!!! So we decided to take I-10 West out of Phoenix and head to Barstow, CA. I really wanted to stay out of CA. but in the end it turned out OK. We arrived in Barstow after going through Quartsite, Parker and then up to I-40 at Needles, CA. that took us to Barstow arriving around 5pm. Friday morning May 1st we left around 8am and hooked up with US 395 the road that took us all the way home arriving about 3pm. Beautiful drive with the eastern Sierra's, with snow on top, on our left all the way. Betty got some great photos and I'm sure will be posting more.

Good to be home and now adjusting to the big change in weather...71 and sunny Saturday.
Hope everyone is fine and for those still on the road....safe travels.

What a fun get together last night at the Tumbleweed!

Phyllis and Mike Jones are here for a short stay and just like 2 years ago when we first met them in Elko to see C.C. and Pat (C.C. was doing a gig at Stockman's Hotel and Casino} a great time was had again! Also met a few more new friends of theirs.

After a 'happy hour' today at our place Phyllis and Mike will be 'on the road again' heading back to their home in Montana.

Change in our Journey

Betty and I had been talking about how long we were going to be doing this way of traveling. We've visited many of the places, some numerous times and most all have a trip report, that were on our list of places and areas that we wanted to see. With that we knew things will eventually change.

The last few years the only traveling with the rig was from our home in Reno to here at the Silverado RV Resort in S.AZ from mid October to early April. Then it was back to Reno where the rig was in storage except for a couple of short trips during the summer.

So...we figured a year or two.

Well our time table was changed for us this winter...engine went out of the truck. Instead of spending $14K for a new motor we were able to trade it in locally here in Casa Grande with numbers that worked. Now we have 2 Jeeps, one at home to be joined by Betty's new (to us) Cherokee. We have made arrangements to leave our rig right where it is on our site and go to an annual rate which is a much better deal anyway.

So yes we knew it was time to stop 'pulling' and enter a different segment in our journey. Memories will always be there and we call RVing a big part of us....

Fulfilling Our Dreams

Added a shed to site to handle storage.
